Music Is a Beautiful Thing — Lennon, Mac Miller, Parity Now & The MORE Effect | Day 9
Day 9 of the Give the Gift of MORE campaign is about something universal: music.
I start with a moment I’ll never forget — hearing about John Lennon’s murder as a 10-year-old kid in a Lansdale Acme parking lot. Decades later, I still remember exactly where I was and who I was with. That’s the power of music and memory.
From John Lennon to Mac Miller’s NPR Tiny Desk performance and his simple line:
“Music is a beautiful thing.”
to a stolen college license plate that said EVEDDER (because someone clearly needed Eddie Vedder more than I did), music has been a constant thread through my life.
In this episode, I talk about:
- How songs anchor some of our most vivid memories
- Why Mac Miller, Frank Ocean, Pearl Jam, Bob Marley, the Stones, and others made it into:
The MORE Effect Official Playlist - How my daughter helped introduce me to artists who now define entire chapters of my life
- Why I believe you can use music almost like a meditation or oracle: hit shuffle, listen, and see what the songs have to say about what you’re going through
I also step onto my #ParityNow soapbox again. The 2025 Women in the Workplace report still projects 48 more years until women reach parity in senior leadership. We mapped the human genome in 13 years. We’re approaching artificial general intelligence. But we’re somehow fine with waiting nearly half a century for gender parity?
Achievement knows no gender.
We can and must do better.
And finally, in the Not So Government As Usual segment, I touch on a Wall Street Journal piece about Nvidia AI chips and a creative structure that will send them from Taiwan to the U.S. to China, so the U.S. government can classify a 25% take as an import tariff instead of an export tax. It’s one more example of how systems, incentives, and modernization are colliding in real time.
Through all of it, the through-line is the same:
Music, parity, policy, leadership. They all come back to how we choose to become More.
