Veterans, Values, and the Next 250 Years

Podcast: A conversation between Jeremy Victor and Guest Contributor, Perry Rearick

In this week’s episode of Business at the Speed of AI, I had the privilege of reconnecting with my friend and former colleague, Perry Rearick—a 20+ year U.S. Army Special Forces veteran who now brings his discipline, leadership, and insight to the business world.

Our conversation explored more than military service—it bridged the gap between battlefield leadership and boardroom leadership. Perry spoke about the transition many veterans face returning to corporate America, often moving from commanding teams in life-and-death environments to sitting in conference rooms where their voices go unheard. Together, we discussed how The MORE Effect framework can help reframe that experience and restore purpose, belonging, and community to the workplace.

One of the themes Perry and I unpacked is central to both The MORE Effect:

“No one is bigger than the community.”

That truth applies in every context—on the battlefield, in business, and in life. It’s the foundation of modern leadership and the first foundational principle in the book.

We also spoke about The NXT250—a new venture I’m launching to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States through innovation, storytelling, and experiences that reconnect people to the ideals that founded this country. Perry’s story—and those of other veterans like him—will be a cornerstone of that effort.

As part of this initiative, a portion of proceeds from the NXT250 apparel line will support the Step Up Foundation, founded by Sarah Wilkinson in honor of her husband, Chad—a Special Forces operator who lost his life to suicide. Supporting our veterans is not enough; we must honor them—by listening, learning, and helping them find new missions here at home.

Perry will be a regular contributor to Business at the Speed of AI, bringing firsthand perspective to topics like leadership under pressure, the transition from service to civilian life, and how immersive experiences—from ruck marches to leadership simulations—can reignite camaraderie, trust, and emotional connection across teams.

This conversation reminded me that our nation’s next 250 years won’t be built on technology alone—they’ll be built on courage, purpose, and the relationships that make us human.
